Conventions of magazines

BIG CHEESE MAGAZINE

This magazine's main colour is red, with yellow accents. This is typical of the rock / metal culture. The featured band (asking Alexandria) is dominating the cover. The masthead 'big cheese' has the first letter E reversed, which is reflective of the rebellious nature of the genre, what also has a reflection of this is the anchor text with the asking Alexandria logo, which draws in the attention of the audience with 'sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.

This magazine shares the convention of having a partially covered masthead with the featured band. This represents the importance of the band.

There is actually very little on the cover of this magazine, relative to other magazines such as Kerrang!
showing that the magazine is focusing mainly on the music, rather than gossip and hundreds of interviews.

CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE

This magazine seems to go a bit away from the conventions of the rock magazine genre as it has a fairly ordered layout and clean look. Instead of using rebellious colours it uses elegant colours such as gold and grey. this gives a more mature feel to this magazine, this is because this is one of the older magazines of the genre, therefore the regular readers of this magazine are possibly of an slightly older age than the general audience of the genre.

Again, Classic rock magazine follows the trend by having the musicians in front of the masthead.
